Ok the big problem is THE TIMES ARE WRONG. You are not repeat not allowed in except on a tour, 4 tours a day if your late you can’t come in. Check the website NOT GOOGLE. So many people wanted to go in and could not. ALSO the tours are only in Chinese. Generally don’t bother going at all

This is the only place in Taiwan that preserves Japanese-era architecture and is a precious national historic site. There is a free guided tour at a fixed time every day, but of course Chinese. I think it would be fun if I could understand Chinese, but it might be subtle if I don't understand. However, the building made of brick and cypress is worth seeing. Because it is far from the city, access by rental bike is recommended.
