Changhua Arts Hall

There was an interesting exhibit on the surrender of Taiwan by the Qing government to the Japanese. Very well presented.

Many public halls were built in Taiwan during the Japanese Occupation. There were three in Changhua County (county), namely Changhua, Lugang, and Ershui. The role of the public hall is to provide a multi-functional venue for citizens to engage in religion, sacrifice, charity, academic, film, performance, speech... etc. at that time. After Taiwan's restoration in 1945, it was renamed Zhongshan Hall and belonged to Changhua County Councillors' meeting place. It was handed over to Changhua City Government in 1962. After being used by various agencies, it eventually became a cleaning team office and garbage truck parking lot. It was registered as a historic building by the county government in 2001 It was renovated from 2003 to 2005. In May 2005, it was managed and maintained by the Changhua City Office and renamed the Art Gallery as a space for art and cultural exhibitions, social education, and leisure.
