Cozy place and have a beautiful view from the top to the city and the sea below. The lady at the ticket counter (pay 60 dollar for 1 person foreigner, for local person I think it's free) is so nice. After finish looking at the garden, we're having difficulties to get a taxi. The lady at the ticket counter help us by calling the taxi without we asking her. Thank you so much for the hospitality. Really appreciate your help.

A historical place with great spirit!! Very peaceful and quite chill to walk around. The main building with all the pine trees is very photogenic. Some nice exhibitions are going on as well. Do visit this place while you are in Hualien!!

It was used by the Japanese military during World War Two for conscription purpose. The building is surrounded by old pine trees. It is prettier if they do not scatter the place with huge insect sculpture.

The Pine Garden was developed from former Senior Officer Residence of Japanese Military Occupation Force in Taiwan ][before 1945] and then U.S. Military Club after the War.nnLater, the Pine Garden became a local tour spot and an art gallery, although it also has a special section to document sacrifice and contribution of veterans who followed Chiang Kai-shek to retreat from China to Taiwan and to join Veteran Reconstruction and Development group to develop eastern Taiwan, including building highway, harbor, airport.nnPine Garden is relatively small but it keeps its original Japanese garden simplicity and beauty, although it went through numerous ownership changes from Japanese to American and, finally, to Chinese.

Peaceful grounds, bit of history, nice little shops, and pleasant cafe. Decent beer, too.
