Surfin' Taipei

Small, dated hostel with no elevator. There is no sign at the door and when I arrived, some guy showed me my room. To date, I have no idea, if he was staff, like an intern, or just a friendly guest. There are quite a lot of long-term guests who know each other and form some kind of clique occupying the TV. Some evenings, the noise is so loud that you need headphones if you want to do something else. If you want to meet new people, that does not make it easier, too. Erica, the main staff/owner?, is not there a lot and you are pretty much self sufficient, which is fine, but good to know in advance. Check the dryer frequently, when you put in your clothes. Somebody turned down the heat so it took much longer until my clothes were dry. Eventually, I stayed there to make sure nobody tampers with the settings. Common space is small, furniture is old. There are much better options for the price. Location is good, but there are also equally good options around.

Cheap, very casual hostel. The place is clean but you don't get much, the beds are reasonably solid but no curtains on the top bunks. The laundry is free but the drier, which costs a bit, doesn't really work at all (but you can just take your money right back out of the machine). The toilets are fine but I'd appreciate some hand soap and maybe a towel, and the lock for the stall on the fourth floor didn't seem to work at all. The common area is pretty big and is nice but personally I don't like the inclusion of an xbox because it meant there was a bunch of guys shouting at it quite a lot of the time, which I think is also a symptom of it being a cheap hostel which attracts less considerate guests. I'm not blaming the hostel or the staff for this but I think it is something to consider, as with most places you'll stay the vast majority of people I encountered were perfectly nice but there definitely was a larger proportion of people who, for example, think it's perfectly ok to watch videos without using headphones in your bedroom. Also one night I had one of my roommates bring a friend back to spend the night with him, and while generally I enjoyed the casual attitude of the staff I feel like they maybe should've done something about this sooner (a member of staff told me she'd seen them come in). I also had a problem one day when I went out and only found out that that was the day they changed the door code when I couldn't get in, thankfully there was someone to let me in after a bit of knocking but if I was out late that could've been really annoying. After staying in a bunch of different areas in Taipei I'd probably recommend this area, so I don't think you can do much better location wise.

Great hostel really close to the metro station and some central attractions. Nice social area with a kitchen, sofas and tables. WiFi is good. Friendly staff.

I really like this place the staff were so nice and friendly. Stayed for 7 nights and glad I did, at its in a great location and pretty quiet.

So cozy place! Good for long term stay, Cindy also is a good host!
