Kaohsiung American School

My child joined the secondary school in KAS. I feel that this school is the worst international school for foreigner that I have ever seen in Netherlands/Germany/USA/Taiwan/Korea. My child wasted time in KAS and needed to study again to make up those time in KAS. I saw that some teachers did not have commitment but looked like short-term visitors. Building of KAS is very good with very high school fee compared to living cost in Taiwan, but teaching of KAS is very doubtful.

Where do I even begin? Last week on 109-11-05, the superintendent of the school sent out an "Updated English Language Usage Policy" for the school; which states that English is expected to be used at KAS unless the student is in their foreign language class. This is probably due to the fact that many foreign students are picking up bad language from the Taiwanese students that don't like to speak English on campus. My daughter for example knows Chinese profanity that she picked up in just a few short months from the children of Mr.Lin, whom in fact is the head of the board at KAS. The taiwanese students speak English when it is necessary but speak Chinese when it is convenient or if they simply don't want to include a non Taiwanese student in their conversation. While this consistently happens on a daily basis, I can not put the blame on the students because the school itself sets precedent and leads by example. Today, 109-11-11 the PTA sent out a message about a parenting workshop for parents of KAS students. The workshop is a great idea and I'm sure it would benefit those who attend but the flyer is all in Chinese. The location is in Chinese. Even the sign up form is in Chinese. The only thing in English is the topic. Now, if this was a one time incident, I wouldn't write this review. However, recently the PTA held a perfume making class and all of the info was in Chinese and so was the class. This school is a joke for foreigners who seek an American education for their children in Kaohsiung. Save your time and money and avoid KAS, as we will after this school year is over.

My son attended this school for 1 year. It was the most terrible school that I have ever experienced. I am very suspicious of this school teachers' educational back grounds. Most of the students, specially in high school, are demotivated by incompetent teachers. This is Kaohsiung for Taiwan students who rarely speak in English during the school time. Apparently the school management team does not care about it whatever parents suggest Do not be attracted by its nice building.

This school is a joke. There's hardly any education. My friends told me that there are teachers who barely teach kids anything. I had friends who told me multiple time that some of the KAS students would go and "show off" in front of other school students next to KAS. This school is just a major disappointment.
