At the end of March, I did not manage to agree with the owner of the leased office premises on the cancellation or substantial reduction of the rent for the quarantine period. I did not want to spoil the relationship and sue in the future either. I called several law firms in search of a solution, mostly they proposed to act on the basis of obtaining a certificate at the chamber of commerce. In this company, I was offered to go through a reasoned negotiation path, and get a discount, up to an acceptable amount. I sent the lease to the messenger, then they helped me to compose and send by mail with a notice an appeal to the landlord, which outlined the reasons for the 75% discount (currently for April and May 2020). After receiving notification of the delivery of the letter, the company’s lawyer, by telephone in conference mode, contacted the landlord with me to clarify the position. Of this it turned out to be enough, the owner of the premises agreed to loyal conditions. Everything turned out well, I did not have to additionally contact the chamber of commerce and pay for the certificate of recognition of quarantine as force majeure.
