Here the beauty worth seeing Old Ostropil is located in the picturesque place above Sluch, at a distance of 35 km from the district center and the railway station of Starokostiantyniv city and 80 km from the regional center of Khmelnitsky. It is a historic Volyn town, a former district center, now a village. The population of Old Ostropolis is 1,374 people. Local self-government body - Staroostropilsk village council. Ostropil as a city was founded in 1576 by Prince Constantine Vasily Ostrozky (at the end of September 1575 the prince and his army laid the basarab fords on the river Sluch and broke up several Tatar detachments here, returning from the raid on Volhynia; he soon laid the city of Ostropil at this place). In 1592, during the uprising of Kosinski, the rebels - non-registered Cossacks, burghers, peasants - managed to acquire the heavily protected city of Ostropol, which for some time became the residence of Krzysztof Kosinski. [1] In February 1595, Severin Nalyvaiko, at the head of the detachment (1000 people), was in the town. [2] In 1619 the town of Ostropil already consisted of a fortified town and a castle. Ostropil is becoming a major handicraft and trading city, uniting 23 villages. During the period of Khmelnytskyi, from 1648 the town was for some time the center of the Volyn (Ostropil) regiment. However, on June 5, 1649, a group of Stanisław Lianckoronski's Polish troops launched an offensive and forced Cossacks Krivonosenko to retreat from Krasilov and Starokostyantynov to Ostropol. After fierce fighting, overcoming "stubborn resistance", the Poles managed to seize the city. However, some of the Cossacks with the townspeople locked themselves in the castle and repelled the attacks of the enemy. Having agreed on the free exit of the besieged from the city on condition of termination of their struggle, the Poles, in violation of the agreements, treacherously attacked them and almost all destroyed. Only a few, including Colonel Alexander Krivonosenko, were able to escape. Bogdan Khmelnytsky's march to Zbarazh in July-August 1649 was the answer to the corrections of the Polish troops, during which most of Volhynia, including Old Ostropil, was re-incorporated into the Ukrainian state. In the second half of the eighteenth century, Ostropole was associated with the life and activities of his distinguished native Herschel Ostropolera, who became one of the main characters in the folk tradition of Eastern European Jews. In 1917 the town is a part of the Ukrainian People's Republic. As a result of the defeat of the First Liberations, the village was long occupied by Bolshevik invaders. In 1932-1933, Ostropil suffered from Stalin's genocide. As a result of the new Soviet administrative-territorial division, Ostropil became a district center in 1935. In July 1941, Ostropole was occupied by Hitler's troops. March 4, 1944 Ostropole was occupied by Soviet troops. In 1959 the Ostropil district was liquidated and thus Ostropil lost its status as a district center. Since August 24, 1991, the village belongs to an independent Ukraine. Nowadays (2000-no) Old Ostropil is a rather large village with small agricultural enterprises, a school, a bus station, a number of trade establishments, and several religious communities.
