In 1964, in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko on the island of Khortytsia, located on the Dnieper River, a park named after him was established and 500 oaks were planted. In 1843, Taras Shevchenko was in Oleksandrivsk (formerly known as the city of Zaporizhia) during his first trip to Ukraine. After a long separation from Ukraine, it was a long-awaited trip for the 29-year-old poet. He stopped in the village of Voznesenovka (now the city) and repeatedly crossed the Dnieper by boat to visit the island. In his poetry, Kobzar glorified the Cossack glory, so Khortytsia was a Ukrainian shrine for him. Literary critics noted the lack of drawings and poetic lines dedicated to Khortytsia. It is most likely that the poet was shocked by what he saw. Instead of picturesque Ukraine, a "colonized land" appeared before his eyes. After all, at that time the lands of Khortytsia were inhabited by Germans of the Mennonite religious sect invited by the tsarist government. Folk tales say that Taras visited the northern side of the island, on the path from Gromushina beam, which was nicknamed Taras's path, in the beam Muzychina. A stele was erected at the base of the park as evidence that in the future it will be a monument to the Great Kobzar. Every year the staff of the Khortytsia National Reserve, the poet's admirers and Zaporizhzhya enthusiasts clean and tidy up the park, and various events are held in honor of Taras Shevchenko.

A wonderful place to walk with friends! But I would like to see the territory better - in some places there are a lot of dead wood.
