It’s really fascinating to see this church next to the apartment block - contrasts that are great to observe.
A cozy and beautiful place to pray and visit orthodox church
A year ago, a child was baptized here. I really liked the place for baptism, not only for children, but also for adults, I have not seen this anywhere else, although I was at the sacrament of baptism 4 times and there is something to compare with. Unfortunately, I do not remember the name of the priest, I liked it very much, was kind and pleasant, explained everything and helped. And there is also in this church for godparents and parents an acquaintance with the sacrament of baptism, where they will tell you everything in detail and you can ask any questions that interest you. Highly recommend!
The best place in the world. Very good, warm and graceful! I am sincerely grateful to the priest of this church and to the abbot for his sincerity and work for the benefit of the people and the holy church.
The temple complex on Bereznyaki, built on a historic site, includes a large cathedral in honor of St. Nativity of Christ, which is now under construction. Nearby is a two-pronged stone church, in which the upper altar is in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos (“upper temple”), the lower altar is in honor of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos (“lower temple”). At the same time, with the construction of the cathedral, the construction of two separate buildings of the cultural and educational center continues, where the editorial office of the Vera and Culture newspaper, a prosphora, a baptistery (room for performing the sacrament of baptism), a Sunday school, a bell tower, a church store, a library, a medical study and dining room for low-income people, etc.
The Bereznyaki massif is a very interesting area with a long history. From the historical information, you can find out that Lake Telbin, on the banks of which the temple complex is now located, is located here from the distant past. And this area was called Kuhmister Slobodka. From the east, the Zatelbin-Bereznyak farm adjoined it. And the banks of Telbin itself were abundantly planted with birches. The settlement of Kuhmisterskaya Slobodka was on this territory from the beginning of the 18th century (the first mentions date back to 1700) and until 1786 belonged to the Lavra Monastery of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery. It was built to serve the troops that took part in the construction of the Old Pechersk Fortress (since 1706). There was a living quarters of the Pechersk monastery cooks, who were called "kuhmister" in the old fashioned way. This word took root in the country through the efforts of Peter I,
Since 1723, a wooden church in the name of St. Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom existed in the settlement. In the 19th century, the temple was rebuilt and apparently renamed the Nativity of the Theotokos. This is the name of this church by a source dated 1900. Another source, dated 1867, represents its former name. Under Soviet rule, the church was closed in the 1930s. It is believed that the church was destroyed by the Soviet government itself, or it perished together with the entire settlement in 1943 when crossing the Dnieper, during the Great Patriotic War.
In January 1787 Catherine II visited here, since then everything has changed. On the territory of the Kuhmister settlement, a derivative town of the Empress was located, which functioned for three months. There were about 14 large carriages, 170 sledges with wagons. Ten horses were harnessed to each carriage, and six horses to the sleigh. Another 550 ungulates were in reserve. 80 large galleys moored to the shore, which served 5,000 soldiers and sailors. Stables were built for horses, barracks for soldiers, many kitchens and canteens. In April, Catherine's escort set off down the Dnieper, and the hastily knocked together wooden structures along the bank reminded of the queen's arrival for a long time. Gradually, the Kuhmister settlement fell into desolation, turning into a squalid working-class settlement.
Although the territory of the Kuhmister settlement belonged to the Chernihiv region, after the revolution, in April 1923, the All-Russian Central Executive Committee adopted a resolution on the implementation of the administrative-territorial reform in the Ukrainian republic. Counties and districts appeared instead of counties and volosts. The reform also affected the clarification of the territorial affiliation of a particular locality. The Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR discussed the issue of expanding the territory of the city of Kiev. Immediately 20 settlements of the suburban area, including those that previously belonged to the Chernigov province, ended up within the city of Kiev. Among them - located on the left bank of the Dnieper, Predmostnaya, Kukhmisterskaya, Nikolskaya and Voskresenskaya settlements, the villages of Poznyaki, Staraya and Novaya Darnitsa. The territory of Kiev has more than doubled.
During the Second World War, the Kuhmister settlement was almost completely destroyed. In the 60s of the last century, several streets with crooked houses and gnarled willows still remained from this village.
Obviously, the name Kuhmister Slobodka did not quite caress the ears of atheist officials, they knew about the historical fact of the connection of the area with the Lavra, and, when deciding to build a residential mass
