Czarny Las Cemetery 1941

Place of massacre of around 300 ethnic Polish intelligentsia from Stanisławów in 1941 by the German Gestapo. Was there in May with my father who was born in Stanisławów and who still remembers these events. In the center there is a stone cross with a touching sentence by the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz (“If I forget about them, You, God, forget about me"). Around the cross there are plates listing the names of the people murdered and buried here in 9 mass graves. Every mass grave is fenced and marked with a white cross. A place worth visiting when in Stanisławów (now Ivano-Frankivsk).
