Bolhrad High School

In January 1858, a delegation of the Bulgarian colonies presented in the capital Iasi a petition for the opening of the school of Prince Nikola Konaki-Bogoridi, himself of Bulgarian origin. They were assisted by Georgi Rakovski, who at that time was in Iasi and knew the prince from an early age. On June 28, 1858, Prince Nikola Bogoridi issued a chrysovul (diploma) for the establishment of the Belgrade Central School, which regulated in detail its status, financing and management. It should be accessible both to Bulgarian immigrants and to all others wishing to study there, regardless of their financial situation, provided that they are Orthodox, and teaching in all subjects is in Bulgarian.
