Serednie Wine Cellars

Old place. Producing and keeping wine for two hundred years!

While resting in a sanatorium in Uzhgorod several years ago, I planned to visit, among other things, the wine cellars in Sredny. I wanted not so much to taste the products as to see the unique 16th century dungeons, the oldest in the country and Europe, where the wines of the only state winery mature. The official name of the enterprise since 1989 is the agro-industrial company "Leanka" - an enterprise for winemaking, production and processing of agricultural products. By the way, the Serednyansky cellars are listed by UNESCO in the ten best wine cellars in Europe. Yes, and Leanka is translated from Hungarian as "girl", this is a grape variety from which Serednyanskoye wine has been produced for 70 years. There is not a lot of information about the cellars on the Internet, they are not "promoted" too much, and tourists usually go to a tasting, like to a museum, forgetting that this is an operating enterprise and, naturally, it does not work on weekends, but on weekdays it works approximately up to 15 hours. The village is still. I can say I was lucky. I went to the village at my own peril and risk by a regular bus in the afternoon and, oh luck, a group just arrived and I was joined to it. Otherwise I just kissed the castle. Therefore, the advice - be sure to call the factory and specify when you can come to the tasting.

The basements themselves are interesting. I did not like the wine. Tasting under the watchful eye of Soviet-era figures from portraits and quotes of Khayyam in Russian is another attraction (

An interesting, ancient place. There is something to see. Wines are delicious, high quality ... There is still some part of the previous glory of the winery and ACE "LEANKA". But in general, winemaking here is in a rather neglected state. Many former vineyards are either completely destroyed or overgrown with weeds.
