Viktor Yedynak. Your Guide In Ukraine (01/02/2021)
Built in 1659 by the Czartoryski's, the castle served as the eastern outpost of the Commonwealth on the banks of the Dniester and played an important role during the Polish-Turkish war. Army provisions were kept in the castle, and King Jan III Sobieski himself stayed here several times. Written mention from the end of the XIX century. “The remains of the castle occupied a land area of 2.5 hectares. The stone walls surrounding this space were square. The walls, almost two meters thick and 2.5 meters high, with loopholes in them, were a significant obstacle for the enemy. At the moment the best-preserved two-story square tower of the castle inside the western wall, decorated with stucco, a bas-relief of a knight, and the coat of arms "Chase".

The Chernelytsia Castle is a castle built in Chernelytsia, Galicia, Ukraine in 1659 by Bratslav voivod Michał Jerzy Czartoryski. The front facade is decorated with the coat of arms «Pogoń». The western facade of the gates is decorated with the emblem «Pylyava» placed above the stone doors of the gates, followed by the letters E.S.X.C.W.B., meaning «Euphrosyne Stanislavitskaya, princess Czartorysk, Bratslav voivod (the second wife of Mikhail Czartoryskiy)». In 1672 and 1676, respectively suffered damage during the war with the Turks (also Tartars, Vlachs). During the rebuilding he played an important role during the Polish–Ottoman War in 1685-1690. It was the largest eastern castle of the Commonwealth on the right bank of the Dniester River. In the time of the Moldavian campaigns, Jan III Sobieski Castle was the place of storage of food and feed. Several times the king himself stopped here. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries the castle was owned by Tsensky. In 1892, then owner of the castle Samuel Mosberg wanted to rebuild the castle. But the order of Gorodenka Starostats under the threat of punishment to perform any construction work was prohibited. The castle ceased to function after the Soviet occupation of Ukraine in 1939.

A beautiful place, but, unfortunately, stolen ... The remaining buildings are impressive. And the road is terrible in those Chernelintsy.

A beautiful but very neglected place, like many places. Plus there is a church a few hundred meters away
