Absolutely a magnificent nature hike. It's HEALING to connect with nature as long and as often as possible. Walking up the tall sandy hills was a good workout as well.
Cowles Bog is a treasure. Nice, hike through varied habitats. I've seen dozens of bird species here. Some highlights: Nesting Sandhill Cranes, black and white warblers, bunch of sparrows, pileated woodpecker, many egrets.
The Birthplace of Ecology by Henry Chandler Cowles in 1896. Come and see DIVERSITY and get some exercise and great microbes for your microbiome.
It took around 2 hours or so to complete the entire loop . Would call this trail intermediate with some sections of it to be difficult. Stopped at the beach for 30 min and enjoyed the cool breeze. The main entrance was heavily packed with a mile of cars waiting to park. Hence found this parking lot which had a few free spots.
This little hike was awesome. My kids loved it. If you have a high quality stroller you can bring it. There were a few areas that was hard to pass but we managed.
