This trail was adorable! Took about an hour to do the long loop. It's a relatively mild hike. A couple good uphill climbs. There is a section with a kind of floating bridge. Because it's been rainy the water was ankle high and my feet got wet. They dried off pretty well as we walked. So much cute butterfly weed everywhere. Highly recommend this trail.
This is a treasure for Chicago. Not quite Yosemite, but a great escape nonetheless.
Great variety of rolling Sandune terrain in an oak savanna. Be sure to read the sign about the oak savanna. Very interesting.
Tolleston Dunes is an excellent natural area within the Indiana Dunes National Park. There are two trails - a long trail and a short trail. The long trail is just over three miles. The short trail is less than two miles. Visitors will see oak savanna, wetlands, dunes and wildlife. Parking is available and free. Maps are also available.
