A very interesting stay. I learned that This regal home was built by Harry Strohm. Strohm was born on November 21, 1868 in the Jefferson township section of Newton County, Indiana. He grew up on his parent's farm and attended country schools until he entered A. J. Kent High school at the age of 16. He studied law in the office of William Cummings for two years, followed by a clerkship to the census department of Washington D. C., which lasted two years. He became the Custodian of Bills in 1895 and served as a private secretary to the honorable J. A. Hatch, of the tenth congressional district of Indiana in 1896. In 1898 he became the postmaster of Kentland, Indiana. In addition, He was a member of the firm of Strohm & Dodson who owned the Newton County Enterprise Newspaper and Strohm later became it's editor. He was a member of the Sons of Veterans where he served as junior vice-commander of Indiana. In addition, Strohm was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He married Mary J. Dodson and the couple had one son named Harry. The home was once the residence of John and Adaline Ade, pioneers of Newton County. John was the first county recorder of Newton County. He chronicled the historic beginnings and placed them into a treasured book while living in this home. John and Adaline were the proud parents of George Ade.nI was also informed that the owners are looking for Artisans, Masons, Retailers, Construction, Handy-persons, wallpaper hangers, and historians are encouraged to donate their time, materials, and energy. Showcase your talent at this home. Your donations are greatly appreciated! Thank you!
