Kind of gross not going to lie, I had one of their burritos de asada. Meat was chewy after I said I wanted my meat crispy, I wanted to give the place a shot after some mixed reviews, and now I know i wont be going back. Also a bit on the slower side of service, so go when you know you have all day.

It was ok. Was looking for a good breakfast burrito and based off recommendations and reviews I chose this place. Prices are excellent and staff is very friendly but the burrito was just eh. I opted for potatoes and they were just french fries which gave the burrito a greasy feel and taste. We ate about half of it. On the plus side is their red and green sauce are both super tasty and I will be back to try their tacos.

This place has amazing burritos. I'm sure the rest of the menu is amazing too, but I'm so in love with the burritos that I can't bring myself to order anything else.nnI grew up with the BEST taco truck in existence (check my review for Pepe's Taco in Estacada, Oregon) and since moving from that small town, I have never been able to fill the void. Until now! Monarca Grill is the best. The bees knees. The icing on the cake. The best thing since sliced bread! If I rated Pepe's Tacos at a 1000/1000, I'd rate Monarca a 999/1000.nnTheir bacon breakfast burrito is great! They don't go easy on the bacon and the egg inside is fried up to perfection. It's kinda odd that they use French frys for the potato, but it works! Genius. It's so good. I get the beef burrito and my fiance gets the chicken. Both are spectacular. Also, everything is made hot and fresh. And I mean Hot. We live about 15 minutes away, and when I unwrap it at home, I nearly get burned handling it. You could bring one home to Portland and it'll still be hot and delicious.nnSo far, Monarca has the best burrito I have found since moving away from Estacada 7 years ago. And I've really tried finding one that's comparable to Rico's Taco. I've tried at least a dozen (probably closer to 2 dozen) taco trucks and hole in the wall Mexican food trying to find one. This was in various cities in the Portland metro area and Salem, including all the Mexican food options at Cartlandia. The closest I came was a place in Oregon City (I can't remember the name right now, but its across from 7/11 near the corner of 7th and Washington. Would recommend).nnIf you have a similar experience and are on the hunt for the best burrito in Salem, definitely try Monarca. Your search may finally be over.nnP.s. Try Pepe's Taco in Estacada. I don't care how long of a drive it is. Go try it. Plan your family vacation around it if you have to (I did, but don't tell my fiance that). Just know, if you talk to any locals about it, be sure to call it Rico's Taco. Pepe inherited it from Rico and changed the name, but ALL the locals call it Rico Taco. Even those who weren't even born when it was Rico's.
