I fought a back problem for 5 years. I went to Dr. Reilly at the Indiana Spine Group. My first visit was January, 2019. They gave me an epidural on February 14 and it lasted 4 days. Went back to Dr. Reilly and he scheduled my surgery for March. I arrived at the hospital in back pain and when he finished my surgery I had pain for 2 days and that was it.nI highly recommend Dr. Reilly for back surgery.

While the actual medical staff seem competent, the front office is not. The prior authorization staff did not submit the authorization paperwork for two weeks and only did so after we called insurance to see what was taking so long and were told they had never received a request. We were then lied to by the Spine Group who only came clean when we demanded to see the fax confirmation. This tells me two things: 1. They do not follow up with insurance at all to make sure the correct paperwork was received and 2. There is no reasonable expectation that any bill received will be accurate because they obviously don’t understand how healthcare insurance works. To make matters worse, this is a Medicaid policy and we were told by the office manager several times: “well this happens with your kind of insurance” meaning that the Spine Group seems to prioritize commercial patients over Medicaid which they are contractually barred from doing by IHCP.nMy advice: don’t go here if you can help it, but if you can’t, demand proof that all paperwork was submitted timely and accurately to your insurance. Follow up with your insurance no longer than 72 hours after they told you it was submitted.nWe will be reporting them to Medicaid, but I hope someone else reads this and can avoid these issues when dealing with your own healthcare. This screw up has caused an additional two to three weeks of debilitating back pain and I would hate to see someone else suffer at the hands of their incompetence.

It really takes a lot for me to give someone a bad review. The Spine group Doctors are truly the best I have had 2 neck Fusions from Dr. Sasso and back injections from Funk along with a spinal cord stimulator. All of my surgeries are the result of a car accident and have been since day one. I have never carried a balance of more than 1000.00 dollars with them at any given time. I have blue cross blue shield insurance which covers most everything. I have always made every effort to pay however I have not been working off and on due to all these surgeries. So yes money gets tight. After my second fusion with Dr. Sasso and I was going for the first trial for a stimulator someone from billing called and threatened me that if I didn’t do at least 100.00 a month towards my balance I would be dropped as a patient. I was so upset and in the middle of treatment what choice did I have? I didn’t have the money but I had to agree or she said they wouldn’t she me for my appointment they following day... I’ve made two payments towards that but I can’t keep up and my lawyer for the accident told me not to continue that we are settling within 6 weeks and my balance would be paid in full. I have a appointment Monday and I’m 2 weeks out from a Surgery and they called again today with more threats that if I don’t pay today that my appointment will be canceled with Dr. Funk on Monday. The billing department is horrible and the only reason for my bad review. I understand I have a balance and it’s not that I’m not going to pay my bills or even trying to get out of it. Understanding and compassion go a long way especially when someone just had a surgery from one of your Doctors!
