This was an outstanding visit. Reminded me of Drs. of yesteryear where they were interested in you as a person. I thought he had excellent manner and explained everything very well and easily. Any question I had was received as a moment to educate and explain. A very relaxed and easy going appointment. Felt like I was a long time patient, not a first timer!
I saw Dr. Bradley once, approximately a year ago. I have tried to forget that appointment, although I recently received an appointment reminder card in the mail. I tossed it in the recycling. How to summarize my experience? It's been years since I had such a terrible 60 minutes during a doctor visit.
Dr. Bradley is very knowledgeable, I'll give him that. He knows what he's doing and has a wealth of detailed knowledge at his fingertips, but his temperament and bedside manner can deteriorate quickly into the unbelievable. That said, I don't really care how smart you are, if you can't treat patients with respect and a calm demeanor, you don't deserve my business. Within 10-15 minutes of the start of my appointment, he began a crazy Jekyll and Hyde routine, melting down and getting irrationally angry at me, primarily because I was trying to explain some factors which complicated my dry eye situation and what I was hoping for as an outcome from my visit. He was not willing to help me in what I wanted, making that decision in probably the first 15 minutes of my visit; ok, that is his prerogative (and he had fine reasons for it), but I wouldn't write a negative review here due to a clash of minds like that alone. No, rather it is because this man began yelling-- yes, literally yelling-- at me continuously for at least a third of my 1 hour appointment time, threatening to end my appointment, and barking "Excuse me, but I'm the doctor here! Who is running the care of this appointment here, the patient or the doctor? Will you stop talking and let me run the medical care?" Over and over.
Once you invoke his ire-- and it doesn't take much-- there is no way to stop the train except by essentially sitting there meekly, saying nothing, and letting him do all the talking. If not, you will be subjected to verbal abuse and degradation, as well as possibly offensive, inappropriate statements. Here are some things which Dr. Bradley said to me in just one visit...
Condescendingly: "Oh, I know, pretty girls don't want to be seen wearing glasses...." [When I was trying to explain how light sensitive my eyes are to both outdoor and indoor lighting, meaning glasses were difficult to wear all day because I had no way to dim my computer wavelength to a satisfactory level without wearing special tinted glasses....and in case he hadn't noticed, pretty girls AND pretty boys think wearing glasses are super fashionable right now, so that had no relevance to my difficulty in wearing them all day]
. . .
After requesting my history of treating my dry eye, he yelled: "WHY are you using Systane with your contact lenses?!?!" I tried to tell him, "Because I've had multiple eye docs tell me Systane Ultra is ok to use with lenses, and I've done it for several years now with no ill effects", but he cut me off, yelling "I don't care WHO told you you could do it, I'M telling you not to!" Like a parent screaming at their kid, telling them to do what they're told, no questions allowed.
. . .
Later, when I was trying to quietly express my frustration about our poor communication and how I didn't know what I could say without angering him: "Well if you don't like what I have to say to you, you can go somewhere else. You can go to where they barely spend any time with you and they don't , or you can drive all the way to Albuquerque and try to find someone better, but good luck with that." When I replied that I had no problem driving to Albuquerque for healthcare as I had had to do so many times in the recent past for other things, he then yelled, "Oh, is that a threat? Are you trying to threaten me?!"
I know it's hard to believe some of my quotes from this man are real, but they are. In conclusion, I don't really care if this doctor ever reads this review or sees my name attached. He made it very clear he doesn't give two hoots about losing patients if they don't like him.
Extremely competent, accommodating if an emergency, and 'on time' appointments.
