I wish I could give a zero star review, but I will have to settle with one star. I am not even sure where to start. All of the events concerning my child, who has special needs, over the last 2 and a half years has been mortifying. My child's needs were thoroughly ignored, and they really don't need that much. The staff at Spencer Butte Middle School did not implement one single accommodation that was recommended by the physicians. There is not a counselor available on a regular, which I had never heard of for a middle school. They did not respond to my child's need for assistance with bullying. They disregarded the diagnoses and never one time offered to do an IEP. We had to ask. The lack of communication, and outright ignoring, is at a level I have not encountered before. My spouse and I tried to escalated this up the chain to district administration, they ignored us as well, and even went so far as to imply that the issues experienced were somehow brought on by us. The icing on the cake was, when their school psychologist (who had close contact with, and evaluated our child) was put on leave for looking at child pornography, and we found out by watching the news. They stated that parents had been contacted in the news story. We most definitely had not. There has been a systemic failure at every level. We have been astonished at the number of lawsuits and articles we see about the inability, or unwillingness, to provide a proper education for those who have special needs. Unfortunately, we are not unique, it seems.

My 13 year old daughter has been attending this school for almost 2 years and has thoroughly enjoyed both of them. It has an excellent music program and strongly enforces the need to end bullying. It has lots of groups for children that may feel left out like gay or lesbian students and students of color. My daughter and I both love this school and would like to recommend it to anyone who has been considering it for a new school.

The environment is relaxed, and the classes are great. However, it's hard to get TAG, IEP, or 504 plans set up. Overall a good school.

Amazing school. I have been going there since 2013 and I'm currently in my last year. I love all the staff there. Everyone is so supportive and they accept any type of student. I would highly recommend Chris Dobson the choir teacher. He is amazing and such a great teacher. The school has always been amazing and would I recommend SBMS to anyone!

Never thought much of the faculty but it's a great campus! I attended here for part of 8th grade before moving to Oak Hill. I enjoyed my time here and I think it does a good job of preparing students for high school.
