I had a great experience. The staff was kind and talked me through what they were doing. They checked in with me frequently to make sure I was not experiencing any discomfort. They answered all questions I had and did not make me feel dumb for asking them. I will return.

I had an extremely negative set of experiences at Campus Family Dental. Not only was the reception staff rude and unwelcoming (“Wow, you’re late and you don’t have your paperwork. Great.” - said the receptionist when I came in 10 minutes early, who also didn’t tell me I needed to print the paperwork at home before coming in), I received HORRIBLE dental work and had to schedule 5 different appointments to have adjustments made for something that should have been a standard procedure. While replacing a filling that I had not been having any problems with (at the dentist’s suggestion), I could feel them drilling into my tooth. The dentist said it was probably just a “cold sensation” (it wasn’t). I had to come back three separate times to have it adjusted. I had never before experienced any tooth pain until they replaced my filling.nnAfter the pain would not subside, I ended up having to get a root canal and a crown. The temporary crown fell out of my mouth a couple days after receiving it. During the permanent crown procedure, the dentist “cross-trained” the receptionist (the same rude one from before who was NOT a trained dental hygienist) to use the suction tool for the very first time while I had the most painful, uncomfortable dental procedure of my life (all while the receptionist kept giggling as she accidentally kept sucking my tongue into the tube). When I went to have the crown adjusted, they told me that any discomfort I was experiencing was probably just in my head because I “seem like a stressed person.” The permanent crown ended up falling out of my mouth two months later while I was on a trip to Germany and I had to go to a German dentist for an emergency appointment to have it glued back down.nnI will not be returning to Campus Family Dental for any dental work in the future. It is my suggestion that you seek dental work elsewhere.

I very rarely leave reviews for anything, but had a very odd experience at Campus Family Dental. I received a routine cleaning that included x-rays. I was experiencing no symptoms, but was trying to find a dentist to get back in the habit of getting a regular cleaning every 6 months. After a routine cleaning, I was eventually told by the dentist that I needed A LOT of work done (13 cavities and maybe a crown) that would have cost between $1200 - $2500. This was far more work than I have needed in the first 25 years of my life.nnI then asked to have the x-rays emailed to me (they were digital). The x-rays sent were such low quality that no other dentist could read them (I sent them to my old dentist and a new dentist in Bloomington). I then went to a different dentist in town who took new x-rays. I had the new x-rays examined by the second dentist and my old dentist from my hometown who both concurred that there were a couple minor cavities, but that was it. Estimated work from two other dentist was minor and about $200 total.nnI know dentistry is not an exact science and dentists can be much more or less conservative than others. However, it is strange to me that the same teeth examined (with x-rays) 1 day apart could lead to such drastically different conclusions. I would be careful and definitely seek a second opinion if you are told you need a lot of work done from Campus Family Dental

I recently had a very distressing appointment at Campus Family Dental. I planned to email them, hoping to get an apology that I feel was most certainly owed me. Since they do not have an email, I am going to write here a blistering review. If some member of the staff at least has the courtesy to read these reviews, an apology from some member of the staff through my email, would not change things, but would make me feel better about their practice, which at this point seems to me to be shoddy to the point of actual dishonesty. My husband and I live on our very small Social Security income. So we both have to ration dental care. When I made the appointment for a dental appointment, I believed that I had made myself very clear that I wanted ONLY a cleaning, but NO check up by a dentist. And I believed that I had made this CLEAR at the time of the appointment. At the end, a dentist came in and, in my memory at least, only chatted a few minutes and then left. He must at least have asked me to open my mouth, pro forma. However, I have no memory of it. As Marge Piercy writes in her novel Small Changes, although in another context--You would think that if something memorable had happened, I would have remembered it. I thought that the cleaning bill--over $80 was excessive, but paid it without question, because I imagine that that is probably the going rate now in the slick corporate dental practices that seem to be springing up all over the place like invasive weeds. But then a few days later, I received another bill for more than $50 for a check up which I had specifically (!!!!!) asked not to have. As I said, we have a very limited income, and that $50 is going to be taken out of our food money this month. I called the office to give my credit card to the receptionist. I did not expect a refund--although if that had been forthcoming, I would have returned to the practice. So I was startled, to say the least, when the receptionist acted as if I(!!!) were the one at fault. I do try to be polite, I believe. But this young woman was so incredibly condescending to me that I became progressively more rude myself. I don't like the memory of being rude to anyone. Now, it's my belief that when you work for any business, and a customer complains, you owe to the customer--and to your own integrity--to apologize, not on your own account, but on account of the business that you always represent. Maybe you can't fix the situation, but you can at least apologize. As the Old Testament says, A soft answer turns away wrath. I know that it does for me. But the RELENTLESS cheerfulness of this young woman suggested that she was dealing with someone elderly (yes) and also no doubt senile (I hope not!). To me, the message was that I was the one who was at fault, and that it was ME who should apologize. Perhaps other customers will feel that it was I!!! who was at fault! I did give the young woman my credit card number. I wish now that I also saw to it that she destroyed the record of my credit card, so that Campus Family Dental could put new, fictitious charges. I will not ask my credit card company to refuse payment, but when the next statement comes in, I will be reading the account VERY carefully, to see that they have not behind my back increased the amount, out of pure spite and shoddiness. I'll end this post here, but would like to reiterate to Campus Family Dental, that a full and lavish apology on behalf of both the young woman with whom and spoke and the practice in general would go a distance towards mollifying me. At this point, however, I don't expect an apology, so I will be telling my friends and relatives that I believe Campus Family Dental to engage in deception.
