University Pediatric Associates Inc

I had a question on an invoice that we were unaware of. I called and had no problem figuring out what it was for. Very helpful.

Out of the blue I started getting collection calls for medical billing. I had not received any medical bill. The collections company said it was for Univeristy Pediatric Assoiciates. I had no idea what it could be for. I then remembered that my daughter had an EKG at her pediatrician’s office earlier this year and that they had sent the results over for a cardiologist to review. I had NEVER received an invoice at all. Come to find out they were, for some dumb reason, mailing the invoice to an address I hadn’t lived at for 4 years. Not sure how they had that old address or why no one tried to confirm the address prior, but it really makes me mad that I had to scramble and pay a collection for an invoice that I didn’t even know existed!!!! This place is awful, avoid at all costs if you don’t want to deal with billing headaches.

Today I received my statement in the mail which included a “Final Notice” paragraph at the bottom. I called immediately as I have had payment arrangements on this account for some time & have HSA documentation showing I have been diligently paying per my payment plan each month. I spoke with Nancy who explained to me the entire amount was due by the end of this month or I would be sent to a collection agency. I asked for further clarification as again, I had been paying promptly & my last payment was less than 30 days ago. She said because the age of the account, I had to pay in full or off to collections the account would go. When I questioned why I had no prior notice, now had less than 30 days to come up with almost 2K, and further explained my husband had his position with his company eliminated as of Jan 1, she said her hands were tied. I was then transferred to Shelly, billing services manager who basically said the same thing. She further escalated the situation by saying she realized my son was now 18, so they would be taking him to collections instead, unless I paid immediately. I can’t help but wonder if she truly thought taking an 18 yo to small claims court would get her any more than court costs & a bad debt write off. Honestly, this experience should be used as a training session for bad business practice and harassment. When you threaten to take my son who is not only a student, but who also is chronically ill with a serious health issue to court, it makes me angry. When you threaten to do that regardless of the fact I was actively honoring the current payment plan, I will not stop sharing this story at this review. Your ethical standards are loathsome.

My experience with Riley's hospital and Dr. Alexy were great. UPA billing has been a nightmare. They made threats to take me to court when I was making my payments that we agreed upon because they said I need to pay more. They assured me they have and could win in court even though I was paying. I stood my ground and refused to pay more. I caused a pretty big stink about it to the hospital and MD office about being harassed. I think that's the only reason they backed off. Greedy people in healthcare make me sick.

We have reached max out of pocket payout with my inc. They sent me ONE bill saying they was going to turn me in to a collection agency if I didn't pay them $1832.00.nI called my Inc and they have been paying 100% of cost since we hit max payout.nI have been trying to call these people for four days, only to get a machine telling me I will get a call back in one business day. I haven't talked to anyone yet.
