Dr. Michael L. Nordlund, MD

I would like to thank Dr. Michael Nordlund, M.D, Ph.D. and his team at the Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI) for my successful cataract surgery. Restoring my vision has been an improvement in my quality of life. I hadn’t realized just how poor my vision had progressed over the past few years until Dr. Nordlund removed cataracts in both eyes restoring my vision to 20/20.nnAs my vision began to weaken in one eye, I made an appointment on a Friday to get an eye exam and prescription for glasses. That optometrist gave me the bad news that I had cataracts in both eyes and possibly had glaucoma in both eyes which could lead to blindness. He made an immediate appointment for the following Monday with Dr. Nordlund. I had heard about cataracts and glaucoma but wasn’t familiar with the detailed treatment for each. I met with Dr. Nordlund and learned about the procedure for removing the cataract along with my natural eye lens and replace it with a plastic lens. I spent a few hours undergoing tests to gauge precise measurements for each new lens. Dr. Nordlund also indicated I may have Glaucoma but couldn’t verify that condition until after the cataracts were removed. I was beyond nervous and therefore delayed the procedure. However, after six months I scheduled the cataract procedures.nnOnce I arrived at CEI, I met with an Anesthesiologist who reviewed my medical history including anesthesia reactions, current medical conditions, and medications. She gave me a small amount of Fentanyl to make me relaxed and comfortable. Numbing drops were used just prior to the procedure to prevent eye pain and infection. Previously, I was told during a dental procedure that I may be allergic to Versed, a drug used to sedate and impair any memory of the procedure. I chose to not have Versed and recall conversing with Dr. Nordland throughout the ten-minute procedure. I felt no pain whatsoever and was completely relaxed. I was pleasingly shocked with the clarity and vision restored to my eye. Within an hour, my right eye vision went from seeing no further than eight inches to 20/20 vision. I was so excited with the result, I couldn’t wait for the same procedure on my left eye.nnOne month later, I had the same procedure performed on my left eye. The procedure was exactly the same and also took about 10 minutes, with no pain or discomfort. Two months later I met with a glaucoma specialist at CEI who conducted several tests which indicated borderline pressure on each eye for glaucoma. To be safe, she prescribed once-a-day eye drops for both eyes and suggested monitoring the pressure twice a year. The technology and procedures used by CEI is state of the art. I feel extremely confident with Dr. Michael Nordlund’s capabilities as an eye specialist and highly recommend him for your eye surgery.
