they absolutely ruined my chances of a simple graduation and messed up on classes, most of the teachers don't know what there doing and nobody knows how to connect with kids. (especially the principle). yes it has a decent education and has a lot of potential but they don't know that and they can't even make an effort to apologize when they mess up and they are constantly messing up and it takes them forever to correct it.They don't even tell our parents when they mess up and they try to hide it from the public the majority of the time,.
It sucks mad butts
To whoever's reading this, I will give my own criticism about this school. I will likewise inform you concerning my very own encounters and my opinions in view of certainty about this place. In the event that you are choosing to attend this school, I figure my remarks will shape your choice.
I used to be a previous tenth grader this year at MIMS. Lets begin with a portion of the pros about this foundation. This school offers a free IB program and drinkable faucet water, that’s about it.
Presently let me list a cluster of cons here,
. Ineffectively supported/ poorly funded
. Overworked and underpaid staff
. Staff griping about their own particular money related issues to the students
. Unbelievably disorganised
. Out of line evaluating/ grading
. Overly strict on basic issues
Presently let me begin off here, as I entered MIMS I was new to the IB program, as this was my first year. I experienced no difficulty amid the 2 terms, however around December was the point at which the inconvenience kicked in. In one of my classes, I was given a failing grade.. Why, no thought. I was left to no clarification to why this happened. I checked managebac and it turns out my grades were brung down on the report card but not on managebac. I was truly given off base grades that literally failed me for no reason in that specific class. I asked a couple of staff members for what valid reason I fizzled and they inferred that it was a slip-up. Indeed, I was given a F and the teacher never endeavored to revise it. After semester 1, it simply fell into the gutter. tenth and eleventh graders were given Edgenuity courses, which is fundamentally credit recovery. Why you may inquire? This is on account of the past principal at this school neglected to try and give out those courses. We needed to do individual undertakings, summatives, and edgenuity courses. Interesting how this school cases to be "Rigorous" they weren't lying. Presently amid semester 2, in one of my classes, there was an instance of uncalled evaluating. How is this so? Well give me a chance to begin off by saying this teacher is the sort to post a task with guidelines on google classroom and changes a few things later without refreshing the task by any means. The staff member reports these adjustments in the class once, and in the event that you didn't hear it, too bad. You would need to ask him yourself on the grounds that the directions posted on google classroom were obsolete. Additionally, as of late this educator had the dauntlessness to leave aloof forceful remarks on google classroom coming the lines of "as reminded by no one" when he should dole out ASSIGNMENTS. I have never, ever observed a teacher advising understudies to post his own task, THAT’S ABSURD! In that exceptionally same class, students presented their work and received 4's. This is viewed as passing yet such huge number of students had received a similar grade. I had a doubt he was simply skimming through our work. I asked my companions what they have gotten on their assignments and its for all intents and purposes all the same. I can't trust an educator like this can instruct at an IB school, its a joke. I have checked the IB grading scale for myself on that specific task and would have a higher review if my instructor tailed it in like manner.
Presently let's proceed onward to the teacher who beforehand gave me a failing grade for positively no reason. That exceptionally same teacher nearly failed EVERYONE this year. That educator didn't have room schedule-wise to check managebac in the event that she put in the evaluations accurately! Just a previous student in the same class needed to remind her to check it! In the event that you need failing grades, come to good ol' MIMS! Goodness yes, and this extremely same teacher griped about his/her money related issues to the student, which I find totally inappropriate on school grounds.
Also, teachers here couldn't grade me and my peers summatives until the point when the VERY LAST DAY WHEN GRADES WERE DUE!
I attended this school a few years ago, and I had to leave almost immediately. The IB curriculum seems to excuse this school from the same standards of other schools, and it took its toll on my learning experience.
The Spanish teacher spent many class hours with uncomfortable activities that I didn't see as helpful to my education, like salsa dancing and yoga ball exercises. I was not accommodated, as a student joining a bit later in the year, and I wasn't moved to a different Spanish class despite my requests.
The design teacher was very welcoming and reasonable, but wasn't equipped to teach. Within a week, we were rearranging tables and repainting the walls to look more design friendly. Apparently that meant flinging random paints onto a wall for a 'creative look'. Needless to say, I learned no new skills.
The math teacher was experienced, but kept flexing his math muscles and putting down poor performing students. Odd, but not wholly damning.
My music teacher was one of 'those' teachers. She punished students for so much as breathing. In one practice, I was handed sheet music to read. Then, I was expected to play it while looking at her, having only seen the sheet once. I glanced at it, then looked up. She mistook my mishap for defiance, and sent to me the principal. Very frustrating.
The other faculty, the science and history teachers, were great. But another problem I noticed was bullying, especially among the middle-schoolers. While this alternative, tight nit school sounds harmonious, it turned out to be a different story. I was picked on, although not nearly as badly as some other kids. Smaller schools force interaction between students, and while that can be a good thing, it also puts a greater responsibility on the school to make sure bullying doesn't happen, and that it isn't tolerated. They also need to ensure that students have resources to handle these issues.
Overall, I'd say the greatest issue here is that the place lacks structure. I was only here for a short while, so take my words with a grain of salt. It just felt like my teachers were improvising every class. Give the place more time to develop and it might compete with the other public schools, like Santa Fe High (which provides more classes and opportunities). To all parents reading this, do your research!
