I looked all over the city for affordable art gallery space to hold a 40th birthday party for approx 45 people. Gravy was exactly what I was looking for! I was able to decorate and hang personal artwork on the gallery walls to create a truly personal event. Plenty of surfaces for food and drink, chairs and stools, a small prep area in the back for the caterer, and an awesome sound system. Katie and friends were extremely accommodating and helpful in offering suggestions for arranging the studio. I don't think you will find a better small venue in the city.

Lucky us: we stumbled upon Gravy when looking for open spaces to hold a brunch on the Sunday after our wedding party. We wanted something relaxed, fun, and interesting and Gravy provided just that! Plus working with Katie and Emma was a dream - they helped us organize the space, allowed us to bring in bagels and lox, and have our run of the place for a few hours. The space itself is small, but not cramped, and very cool. Best of all, anything you spend on renting the venue goes straight into the pockets of working artists and photographers - we loved the community and grassroots feel of it all. I highly recommend getting in touch with Gravy if you need a blank canvas of a space in which to host 50ish people for cocktails, brunch, or a standing event. It really was perfect, and we thank all our new friends there for helping us realize our vision.

I saw a wonderful documentary on Elsa Dorfman here. Got pizza from Rustica beforehand, which is always a treat. I drank a lot of marijuana tincture earlier that day and spent a good deal of time inside my head, but there was an excellent basset hound kicking around the studio who helped me shake off the cobwebs.
