This is my favorite getaway destination when I'm feeling cooped up, like we all are now. There's a sense of solitude and expanse as you stroll along the Delaware River. If you're lucky, there'll be cormorants hanging out on the piers. Amazing that it was an active military base not that long ago. There's a mix of historic abandoned buildings and others that have been refurbished and reopened (Urban Outfitters). There's abundant free parking, but it's a hike or bike ride from the NRG stop on the Broad Street line. If you do drive, the front Broad Street gate may be closed on the weekend. To be safe, you can come in from the Columbus Blvd side, drive through the quarry and still get in. It is dog friendly but few amenities (restrooms, eateries) are open on the weekends. Plan accordingly.
Great place to go! Recently went for an art Instillation at a large empty warehouse! But I usually go just to walk the river trail. Also a nice place to go for a quiet picnic.
A real treat to see the naval ships. Very patriotic feeling.
