Unbelievable..... I Chasen D. Olson on 06/09/20 was riding in the passenger seat of my 2013 gmc 2500 as my wife was driving and 3 yr old son was riding on the back passenger side in his car seat. Also in the vehicle were my dogs in their kennel. We were pulling a 14’ trailer with our side by side and sons 4 wheeler inside. As we came through the intersection of us 85 north/south and highway 2 East/west at about 5:50pm, A Williams county sheriff truck with its lights on blew a red light and came sliding within 5-6” of the passenger side of my truck. The road conditions were wet as it was rainy. We had a green light and were going 45mph, in the middle of the intersection my wife screamed and hit the brakes sending the trailer sideways. I looked up and saw the sheriffs gray f150 sliding through the intersection forcing us into oncoming traffic on the other side of the concrete median. Keep in mind we had a green light in the north/south bound lane meaning there may be traffic about to head on my family’s pickup with a trailer attached as this supposed veteran officer came sliding within inches of our vehicle. He then proceeded to leave the scene of his near miss without asking if anyone was alright. We then had to drive over the concrete median and think about what just happened. My wife was shaking and my 3yr old child was screaming. After calling 911 and reporting the near miss the dispatcher told me she would have the sergeant call me. I am clearly unhappy and cursing as this officer had no courtesy as to even stop and see if things were ok as he clearly just could’ve killed my family. Corporal Roberts proceeded to call me at 6:25pm 06/09/20 and said that the officer called it in right after it happened. Corporal Roberts said, “the officer is one of our veteran officers and said he came To a complete stop at the light, he couldn’t see around the semi so he went for it”...... I then asked “is that how we f***** do that? If you can’t see you just f***** go? He could’ve killed my family!” he didn’t seem bothered that his officer could’ve killed my family he asked me “are we done mr. Olson”? Are you kidding me? So I now have to go talk to the lieutenant....All I ask is that you serve and PROTECT, my family is my life, my child could’ve been taken from us today because a supposed veteran officer blew a red light without making sure the intersection was clear when he knew dang well anyone coming couldn’t see him if he couldn’t see us. My only question is why not inch out around the semi and look if you were stopped at the instersection and couldn’t see?????
