Great place to fish for bass and to spot buffalo.

We have been to Maxwell numerous times over the years, including today. We have tried to call for a reservation to go on a tour, and have never been able to get through. Today the gate to the gift shop was open, so we went to see if we could get a tour. We waited about 10 minutes before a tour returned. We asked the three staff members if we could have a tour, but were told they only do tours at 10:00 and 11:00 (it was 11:45) and we didn't have reservations. As we were standing there, another group of four people came in and asked for a tour. They were denied, as well. I would have thought they would have been willing to make an exception for a tour of eight at $10 each, but we were turned away because we didn't have 10 people in our group and we didn't have reservations. We were disappointed, of course, and we found the staff to be quite rude and uninterested in helping us. I would still like to take a tour, but I'm not sure how a group is supposed to make reservations when their phone system is not working properly. I found the staff to be quite unaccommodating. We could not see the bison and their calves from the road, as they were too far away.

Annual buffalo auction every November. Exciting action not to be missed. Lunch afterwards at the visitor center.

The views are amazing near the tower. Theres a lot of nature in this little park, from the elk and buffalo on the plains to the egrets and fish down by the lake. Always an enjoyable and peaceful time here.
