The Roost

I think how The Roost has handled service during the pandemic represents their identity as a business. They put the well being of their customers and their staff first, while also continuing to provide consistent and high quality service and food. My husband and I order from here regularly to take an order to go, and we also have dined in once and felt very safe. If you want outstanding food served by just as outstanding of people, look no further than The Roost!

Why not open dining with social distance like most every other place? It's like 1 person in a car of 4 wearing a seat belt. 1st you didn't get my order right while sitting at your outside only dining. The Biscuit n gravy was very disappointing. If you do try this place with outside dining only enjoy flies on your food and be surrounded by bee hives. If you have a bee allergy don't even take carryout. Only a matter of time this places closes with there halfway open attempt. Enjoy dining outside next week with gloves and a snow hat.

My favorite little breakfast place in Lawrence! I've been going to the Roost for years, and since moving out of Kansas, I always make a point to stop in when I'm in town. The food and the drinks are ALWAYS wonderful, no matter what I get. I was so pleased with the service during the pandemic. My food was brought to me quickly and I'm so happy to see them thriving while keeping their dining room closed for the safety of customers and staff. Keep doing your thing, Roost!

I first want to say I have always thought the food was great. But today @ 8:15am I order The Kansan, I was disappointed. The scrambled eggs looked like a glob of yellow, with no flavor. It reminded me of store bought premixed eggs that come in a milk carton. I potatoes were over seasoned with salt and what tasted like sage, which overpowered them. The sourdough toast was more dried out bread than toast. However the bacon was great. New cook maybe?

We used to love this place but maybe due to recent social distance standards things have changed. We got a cold hard biscuit with room temp gravy and not offered catsup/hot sauce, asked for ice water and only got room temperature tap. Maybe when we get back to normal things will get better.
