We were out bicycle riding and decided to have a little stop here. They are doing a lot of construction, excited to see what its going to be when all done!

Once construction is done it will be great.

Not a bad small park. Clean and some what well kept. Parking is a bit tight but you can still make it happen. Everything the kids wanted to do was right there. Small playground and a few other things made it a good place to run around for a bit amd burn off energy.

November 2020. First round of construction is finished and the entire park is open again. But another round of construction is just ahead.nNext up is remodeling the park shelter. Construction will start soon on the renovation and remodeling of the shelter at Drake park. Included: Enclosing the shelter and new restrooms. The city council has approved a $733,000 contract with GTG Construction for the project.nnJune 2020. No playground, no pool, no picnic tables this summer at Drake park. City is spending over $600,000 on a remodeling project for the park, one of the oldest and smallest in Des Moines. Included: A 'spraygrounds' to replace the pool and new picnic tables. A second phase calls for remodeling the park shelter. Basketball and tennis courts are still open as well as back third of park along Day street.nnMay 2020. Wading pool is going to be removed this summer and replaced by a 'spray grounds.' A good portion of the park is now blocked off by a fence. Playground equipment is not accessible. Tennis courts are open, but you'll need a lot of patience to find the entrance. The park is open until sunset every day (Listing on Google Maps is wrong, but I was unable to make changes.)nnNice neighborhood park. Just one square block, but there are BBQs, basketball hoops and a playground. There is also a wading pool, but the city has been talking about removing it (2019) and has deferred some important maintenance.
