I had an unpleasant exchange with Josh Torkelson today from Gillum Group. I would honestly give them no stars if Google would allow it. I’m currently selling a home (we’re the owner, not an agent) and he inquired about the availability and if we were paying a buyer‘s agent fee (a commission). I had begun to explain that we were not wanting to pay the fee, but if a buyer was able to move quickly and we were able to make enough from the sale that we would be willing to negotiate something for their trouble. However, before I could even get through this information, Josh decided to rudely hang up after I had said we weren’t wanting to pay the commissions. I decided to call him right back to maybe get a little clarification. I asked him, just out of curiosity, what he would now tell his clients, considering our listing is not on the MLS and they would have been the ones who found the listing themselves and to direct him to contact me. He simply said.. I’ll just tell my clients that your property is no longer available.. Wait..WHAT?! To which I asked if he would just lie to his clients? Josh replies that it’s a huge red flag when a seller isn’t being represented by an agent (and just ignored my question). I would disagree - I think it’s a huge red flag that the people you think you can trust to help you through the home buying process are lying to you and are only willing to show you properties based on how much they’re going to receive in commissions. I did try to ask if their client was selling their property (I admit that this was maybe a little out of line). I was trying to imply that even if we didn’t give him his full 3% fee, that he would be making something from the sale of his clients house. Josh quickly snapped that it was none of my business and hung up on me again.nnI feel bad for whoever has decided to use Josh and the Gillum Group to represent them. There’s a ton of realtors in the metro that would bend over backwards for their clients, so you would think it’d be in their best interest to do what’s best for their clients - to retain them and get a decent referral or two along the way.nnAs for me, I hope Josh’s clients decide to give us a call to take a look anyway-without him present. Our lawyers are prepared to review any documents and to do the closing. Plus, we can save thousands of dollars that Josh doesn’t deserve anyway.
Josh is absolutely stellar! He was patient with my partner and I during our first steps into home ownership. It was an absolutely amazing experience, even though I personally was asking questions almost constantly! Thanks Josh!
I have never met Josh Gillum. I think my Google account got hacked a year ago and the hacker posted several reviews using my account. I changed my password when I noticed the hack.
Josh is a great agent to work with. He is very patient (I know I drove him crazy a few times). It took me almost a year to finally purchase the townhome I wanted. When I called to see a place during the year he was quick to show it to me. He pointed out the good points the home had and what he thought I wanted. I would highly recommend him to sell a home or to buy a home.
Buying my first home was an overwhelming thought, but Josh and Brooke made it surprisingly easy. Josh was very patient with me while looking at homes and always seemed to know which properties would spark my interest and which weren't worth the trip. He was always available to answer any question I had and was always willing to meet at short notice to see a home. His knowledge and experience throughout the process really put me at ease. I'm not sure it could have gone better and I would certainly recommend working with the Gillum Group to anyone!
