As a 35 year member of a volunteer fire department I was disappointed by the unprofessional way one of your members confronted a Fed Ex driver for parking in a marked fire lane while making a delivery at the Walcott Iowa 80 Truck Stop. Your credibility was compromised when the Walcott Fire and Rescue unit was parked in the fire lane so that the two volunteers didn’t have to walk far to purchase refreshments for themselves. The loud dressing down of the driver could be heard throughout the whole Iowa 80 store as one of your members said that with 900 parking spots available, he (the Fed Ex driver) didn’t need to park there. I would agree that he should not have parked there, but neither should have the fire dept. if they were there for a non emergency. Kindness is always a more effective way of communicating.

All volunteer Fire Dept. that helped people stranded on I-80 in a snow storm, put out fires where ever asked even out side the city, assists the city in parades during Walcott Days.... And they all have day jobs. I don't think the few minutes of sirens through out the day are as hard to deal with as the reason they go off. And there is only one house closer to them than Grandmas. Well Done Firemen, WELL DONE!
