Iowa City has a nice water plant. The huge water softeners are very interesting to see. If you call and ask nicely it's possible to get a tour of the plant. If you haven't got that kind of time, you can walk through the nearby prairie just to see the building and check out the surrounding area. The trails and all the wildflowers are beautiful in the summer.
