This place was amazing. Our three girls had the best time walking around on all their trails, maze, checking out the animals, putting on their own show at the outdoor amphitheater and ample spots for a picnic lunch. Plus with COVID they have one designated restroom (with changing table) instead of many places just offer a port-a-potty. This was an incredible family friendly place and we will definitely be repeat visitors.

This is probably a good little place to visit when its not during a pandemic and more can be open to explore. The area is well kept and you can tell the staff care for the space and animals.

The collection of arrowheads, and other antiquities is amazing! The learning centers for children are a wonder. We went to the public forum and attended 2 of the classes. It was a great experience and we will return soon.

I'm not impartial, this was my grandfather's until he died and donated it. My cousins are still involved. The whole point of this place is to teach about nature, it's not about a gift shop, it's not about the flash and wow. It is about nature. I walked the trails as a child and I got to take my daughter finally this year. Some things have changed but the native grass that was used as starter seed are still there, my dad, uncle's and grandfather sorted the pure seed by hand, that is the love my grandfather had for nature. Go into the woods sit on the bench on the trail that runs along the Iowa River and just listen to the ground, the trees and the animals. The section of evergreen trees my grandfather planted, you can only tell because they are the only ones there, but they were planted in a natural way. No flashy stuff because nature is flashy when you calm yourself enough to actually see.

The museum is fantastic - Native American artifacts, taxidermied animals, information about prehistoric animals of Iowa, a digital microscope to look at various things, a tree with doors that open to teach about the layers of trees, etc. The animals, though few in species and not well displayed are still fun for small children. Staff was great and the results were well maintained. A great family afternoon!
