I just wanted to leave a message hoping that the district attorney in charge of hold abuse cases would see this. I used to live in Clay county where I was physically beaten and sexually molested by my adoptive mother and many men who she allowed to also abuse me. DHS investigated our home many times, removing one of my younger siblings for 'suspected abuse' instead of confirmed despite accounts from me, the child and her teachers that our mom was hitting her. After my sister was removed and our mom faced no punishment for beating a child, her abuse became more violent towards me. The Spencer Police Department came to our home after I contacted them when my mother hit me. I had a busted lip that was bleeding, a bloody nose and a fresh mark on my eye that later became a black eye. With blood streaming down my face, he cops didn't arrest my mom or remove me or my sister who was mentally challenged. It concerns me that DHS and the police did not see fit to report child abuse, contrary to witness accounts, the law and their own observations. Because they did not punish my abuser for the physical injuries I suffered, I did not report the dozens of times I was rape. Because the cops did not seem concerned about visible, obvious marks, I thought they would not charge my rapist, either. The foster girl they removed matched my sexual abuse claims to DHS on the report I read. I believe the police should be held accountable for allowing children to stay in abusive homes, or at least investigate why they did not see cause for removal despite ample evidence. Is it because the county simply does not want to pay monetary compensation to foster children , so they are willing to overlook children being so severely hurt? I have spent so much time and money on counseling to deal with the huge impact of the abuse I endured. After seeing rapist and child beaters vindicated so many times in Spencer, I didn't know it was wrong for a man to force you to have sex until a counselor told me so. I hope the appropriate changes will be made to assure children in Clay county are not forced to endure abuse.
