I had such a great time here. Herbert Hoover was a vastly underrated president. He has been unfairly maligned due to circumstances outside of his control, which was an economic crash that happened early in his tenure. Despite making great effort to stop the bleeding, he received the blame for the crisis and was defeated in the bitter election of 1932. Then FDR came and made things 1000x worse but he bought people off and that's all most people cared about. West Branch is a quiet and quaint town in Iowa and is very compelling. I hope everyone will take the time to learn more about this remarkable man.

After driving over three hours to visit the museum we find that it’s closed. I checked the web site and called to ensure it was opened and they both said it was. You would think someone would be competent enough to change the website and update the voice hours. If thousands can protest why can’t a museum be opened.

My husband has wanted to stop here for years and we finally made it. I really did not know much about President Hoover before going to the museum and the National Historical Site, to be honest. But, I could not be more glad that we went. The museum is expertly displayed and teaches--in a very user friendly manner--about President Hoover's life. The staff and Park Rangers are kind and helpful; we felt very welcomed. He is a man to be admired who came from humble origins. If you are in the area, it is absolutely worth a visit! As a side note, we bought a passport to the 13 Presidential Libraries while we were here and it's now a bucket list item for our family.

Library was closed for COVID, so I can only review the park. It was super-interesting, and also a really nice park! There’s a statue that Belgians donated to Hoover, and his birthplace is there. It’s just a tiny house, that is very interesting to see! Gravesite is really nice and interesting. I can’t think of a better word, but the whole thing is really fascinating and gives a lot of insight into a president during the Great Depression (which I personally found powerful, in light of the present moment of COVID, etc). A park ranger there was extremely nice and helpful.

I learned a tremendous amount about our 31st President. Very well done and exhibits are laid out chronologically and with a great deal of care. This museum is a must-see for anyone interested in Presidential history or to have their paradigm shifted about this severely under-rated executive and humanitarian!
