Great place to learn local histories but some staff were not accommodating.

Disappointing if you go on a regular basis. After you've been to other museums you find their collections are static in their old warehouse display style. Besides wanting to dust thoroughly I want to organize with style labeling and use effectively the unique spaces and situations of the centuries old building.

Love this place. Went once with my wife, then back again with the kids. A hidden gem indeed.

The place was closed and it was not mentioned on the website. Drove there for nothing ,!

It's a museum of museums. That's because this place is loaded with plaster casts of other famous works of art, all crammed into a relatively compact area. Why travel the world to see all of these sculptures when you have them all in one spot. While there are so many statues that surround you, it doesn't feel overly full. Perhaps the balcony gives the added airiness that makes this place feel special. Because many (if not all) of the sculpture works are copies, you can get as close as you'd like to the art. They're all life size or larger, so it's quite an experience to immerse yourself among so many masters' masterpieces. You can also learn about the history of the Slater family, and their Grand Tour journey on their private yacht. There are also works and artifacts representing the history of Norwich, CT, as well as some of the Slater Family's finds from various countries on their world tour. There's even an explanation on how the plaster casts were made. A spacious gallery area is available at the rear of the museum, which hosts annual events and various art shows. Parking can be a little sparse on busy days if you want to park right nearby, but parking exists on a side street if the small lot up front is full. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area if you want a lot of exposed art.
