My husband and I were hoping to go horseback riding for the first time today! The woman who he scheduled the appointment with sent him a text with directions to follow once we arrived. The directions were very detailed and as follows, “ The address is 120 Roaring Brook Road Prospect Connecticut. Roaring Brook Road is a dead-end road the barn is located at the End of the Road. Park in front of the barn with the Red Roof walk of the gravel driveway on the left you will see the ring at the top of the hill. That is the back of the Rings. Take a left down the trail and walk to the picnic tables that is where we will meet you.” Again, this was our first time and we were having difficulty figuring out where the ring was at the top of the hill. We did not know what “The Ring” meant. We are unfamiliar with the terminology in reference to horseback riding. There were no signs and we didn’t know what we were looking for. While discussing amongst ourselves which direction we were going in, we heard a woman who was assisting a child on a horse yell out in a rude tone, “Follow Directions! You have to go down that way!” My husband and I immediately became offended and we walked down the path that we were told to go down. We then saw the picnic tables where we’re supposed to wait along with other guests. We waited a few minutes and then decided that we no longer wanted to go horseback riding at this location because of what we experienced. We felt insulted and disrespected. We pondered if this is how all of the guests are treated or if we were discriminated against. Either way it wasn’t appropriate and customer service goes a long way! After leaving my husband received a call from the stable and I answered the phone because he was driving. The woman asked, “Did you just come here and leave?” I explained to her that this was our first time here and that we didn’t know what a ring was or which left turn we were supposed to take. I told her that she offended us when she yelled out to us that we should follow directions in front of other guest and that we believed she insulted our intelligence! I then told her that we’ll go horseback riding else where and to have a nice day!

The staff was amazing. She took the time to make sure everyone knew how to control their horses and that everyone was comfortable. My 12 yr old daughter was a bit nervous but by the end of the ride she was smiling and having a great time. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for an activity to do.
