There’s a stunning piece of the Connecticut River in East Hampton, where you can stroll down to the riverbank and take a family picnic in perfect seclusion.nnAt this point the river is more than 200 meters across, and if you happen to arrive at Hurd State Park by water in the summer months there’s a small campground reserved exclusively for people entering and leaving by boat.nnThe park spreads over more than 1,000 acres, and has a network of blazed trails streaking through the forest.nnThe orange and yellow trails take you to the top of the split rock, a set of granite ledges where you can see the river far below through the trees.

Of the many times I’ve been here, I usually only see two or three other people max. It’s a great small state park that lots of people don’t know about. The hiking trails are peaceful and well maintained and offer views of the CT River.

There are some great trails here. I usually go to the Split Rock trail which is pretty quick and easy compared to some of the other ones. It seems that they are repaving so the drive within the park is quite bumpy right now.

Very pretty. Such a diverse area, and so much different terrain that you walk through. Lots of different trails, and they are well marked.

This is a cute little park. We went for a hike. The best part of that was we spooked a deer and got to see just how quickly they can get up and go & how fast they really are. The area was somewhat scenic. Parking was easy. There were some lovely views of the Connecticut River.
