Miles and miles of nature
Quaint little hiking area, with tribute to Henry Thoreau. A beautiful iron bench with his quote, the suspension bridge is unique and intriguing. It sways a bit as you cross, and bounces especially when children jump on it too. The hiking appears level for the most part, multi levels, I can't wait to learn the history. A quartz quarry is listed on a map, horse trailers are welcome at certain times, for horse trail usage. I have been twice and will go back again. Stop at the GW Tavern for a bite to eat, The Pantry for a treat, The Hickory Stick for a good read, and Marty's (Luke's Diner) from Gilmore Girls just down the street!
Like bridge
This is a very cool trail to hike because of the views, but mostly because of the bridge that is part of the trail. It is not too tough to trek, nor to follow.nI have only been here once so far, but have every intention of returning here at some point in the near future...nThe area is beautiful.nUpdate (10/18/2020); Returned here and hiked to the Pinnacle, the Quartz Mine, and the the Hidden Valley lookout.nIt was another beautiful hike on a spectacular day...nThere is a second bridge that has a memorial for Stephen Reich of the U.S. Army..nThe trail near the Thoreau Bridge follows along the river for a while and provides some great views.nIf you have never been here and you like hiking and nature, you're missing out on a good one.
Wonderful place to hike and bring your dog. Lots of different trails to try and places for your dog to cool off! Trails closest to the river are the most popular, but you can hike in solitude by choosing trails in the farther reaches of the preserve.
