We rented the pavilion on Sheffield island for our wedding and it was beautiful. Our guests very much enjoyed the island and the boat ride. Many commented on how it would've been nice to have more time to explore it, so I'm sure we'll be back on a tour!
The cruise to Sheffield Island Lighthouse offered by the Seaport Association in Norwalk is amazing. The cruise out to the island is beautiful and takes about 45 minutes or so. Once on the island, you are greeted by a knowledgeable guide that gives you a tour of this historic lighthouse that turned 150 years old in 2018! Afterward you are free to explore this totally deserted island that also has a National Wildlife Refuge on it where you spot a variety of seabirds. There are picnic tables, a little gift shop that sells food and bathrooms. The Association offers Thursday night lobster bakes on the island, Wednesday night acoustic cruises and even sunset cruises on Fridays. This is the perfect way to unwind and explore Connecticut's maritime history from May - early October. It is really well priced and for the three hour tour, a bargain! I love going to the island with friends every summer and packing a picnic lunch -- the boat only holds 42 so it is like having a private island all to yourself!
Talk to Patty at the ticket both while you wait for the ferry, she's a treasure trove of information.
