Chase Bank

The New Canaan branch seems to have deposit rules which vary from week to week. Two weeks ago I deposited to my personal account a check payable to my business which I as Principal of that business endorsed to myself. The check cleared without a problem. Today I attempted to deposit basically the same check (identical payor and payee) and they refused to accept it because it was payable to a business, a policy which is normally enforced in cases where the bank is not familiar with the business or depositor. In this case however my name and address were imprinted on the check and I'm an established customer of the bank so discretion could easily have been exercised as it was two weeks prior.nnGiven this experience I regret to say that the personal service at the branch, otherwise excellent at the relationship level with my representative Venereen Lee, is truly appalling at the transactional level, and if they want to grow their business they should probably find a branch manager who is more willing to make reasoned exceptions to accommodate the specific minor banking needs of it's customers. On that basis I have to say you would probably be better off at Bank of America which subsequently took the check without a problem, or indeed one of the local community banks which are always more responsive to customer needs.nnVery disappointing. And as a multi-year Chase veteran of the front lines and retiree I don't go on record publicly with this lightly. Owing to the excellent service provided by Ms. Lee my plan was to eventually migrate all my business from Bank of America to Chase: sorry, mother Chase, no more, at least not until you get a branch manager willing to make reasonable exceptions...
