I have always carried Sacred Heart in the highest regard. With that being said, I ran into the most unhelpful, disrespectful and dismissive departments in my entire decade of dealing with Collegiate and Higher-Education administrators. As with most colleges, I got bounced around from department to department which was to be expected. Each time I called in, I was routed directly to the Career Development Center. I assumed the help that I had received at so many other schools: progressive, courteous and helpful! But not today.nnI was calling with a job opportunity for current or soon-to-be-graduating student. A pretty nice offer with a large company (over 500 employees) and I was looking for who or how to share this information with Career Development Department so I could share the opportunity with the student body. I had figured a process and sign-up on a website to verify the job was upcoming, but either way its a process. Well ar least normally.nnI got routed to the department that several people advised I speak with, but it was not only useless 3 times but the gentlemen (3 separate men who continued to speak under their breath, who knows why?) and they not only said 'we cannot help you' but they turned down every advanced I made to pass the job information or figure out where to send or post it, that they said The Center for Career Development does not help people find jobs or opportunities at all. I asked if I can email information that would be helpful to a student who is looking for employment and they said their department, the CAREER DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, did not do that. I asked for a recommendation for a department that did and they hung up on me, not once but twice.nnI tried calling back to attempt reaching Student Services and Bonnie was awesome! But she said she only handled Part time jobs. Full time for graduating students, she assured me, is handled by CDD, so I attempted one more time as she routed me there. And once again I calmly shared the reason for my call, was turned away, asked for their recommendation only to be turned away and denied, now with snickers and laughs directed at me be these gentleman who sounded upset that i called as they quickly hung-up on me once more.nnOn my initial call, I reach the department because the prompts said 'thank you for calling the Career Dev Center...for hours press 1, if you are an employer press 2' so I did the and ran into this bad experience. Thought the call might have dropped but got hung-up again. And a 3rd time started off with a promising call butwas rerouted to these guys who loved hanging up on me. Now, this may be coincidence because I have had nothing but good experiences there in the past...BUT TO THE CURRENT AND POTENTIAL STUDENTS AT THIS UNIVERSITY please know that normally schools do all they can for you and your future to EARN that hefty tuition check...but today, Sacred Heart's Career Development Department did not at all.nnAnd I am I not saying this for my benefit because we will get the position filled one way or another. But if I got turned away so quickly by a department that is supposed to be on your side, THE STUDENTS....I can't imagine that I am the first or the last. Rethink your choice with colleges everyone, they are supposed to be opening doors for you, not shutting them...
