A unique western Maryland wetland that, because of its elevation (circa 2,600 feet above sea level), has flora and fauna not normally found south of Canada and New England. It also serves as the home of the locally famous Finzel Swamp Monster, a bigfoot-like creature said to lurk ominously among the remoter cranberry bogs. It's an interesting place and well worth seeing. If you catch a glimpse of the monster, let me know.

Finzel Swamp is a relict of the with rare plants and animals. Always something new to see here and always a delight coming here no matter what season. Come prepared in winter as it is bitter cold.

Several private homes are among the access road. Please respect the speed limit, don't raise dust. Watch your clearance, though I saw Audi TT in the parking area.

Incredible nature preserve, so many birds, plus beaver and mink! Drive slowly or the angry neighbor on the right will yell at you.

Great birding. Good walking out to pond. Almost primitive except for the bridges over the swamp. Spray for ticks or take a shower after a visit.
