Easy access to the Appalachian Trail but very limited parking available

I walked up to the gas pipe line overlook on the AT about a mile from the peak of cove mtn in mid December. It was 5 miles there and back and very enjoyable. It gradually builds up for 2 miles before a relatively steep half mile climb to the ridge. After you hit the ridge it is fairly flat with nice views in the winter. I would note that like much of this portion of the AT it will become more overgrown with thorns and brush in the growing season. It is a good hike for all but young kids or those brand new to hiking.
