Abington Free Library

I've recently decided to change my review (Nov 2020) because the library refuses to open.

The facade is as modern as it is misleading; inside is as stuffy as the staff is old. It is SUCH a treat, though, when once every three or so, a staff member isn’t an awful, unapologetic curmudgeon. 1/5

The librarians are wonderful very pleasant and helpful however, Check in/out is horrible! Ppl up front lack ppl skills and are very racist! Even the African American employee at the front (uncle toms) how do you frown upon someone who’s trying to get their account in good standing for late fees. They don’t have a credit card machine to accept payment only Online. Montgomery county is VERY RACIST and this branch is no different.

HASSLE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO APPLY FOR AN ABINGTON LIBRARY CARD!nnAbout 10 days ago I stopped in the library to do a little work as it’s across the street from the YMCA, at which I’m a member.nnAdvised that I was a Philadelphia resident and I inquired about a library card. Upon confirmation of my Philadelphia library card, they advised that it would be sufficient to obtain an Abington card. I didn’t have it handy so I returned within the week with my card,at which time I was advised that I needed the card and an ID. Had my passport on hand, but that wasn’t sufficient.nnI later retuned with my ID as well as my Philadelphia library card. I completed an application, watched the woman input my information into the system and was issued a card.nnI visited the library last week. Spent time with the representative at the information desk in attempt to locate a few titles, which we found in print and audio. In preparation to borrow the books, I proceeded to check out. I present the books and my new Abington library card to Helen, who advised that my card wasn’t valid. I explained that I had just received the card from this library the week before, to which she rallied “no you didn’t”! Annoyed, i told her I WAS ISSUED A CARD THE PREVIOUS WEEK AND EXPLAINED THE ALREADY EXTENDED CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH I received it.nnShe called Jeannette over who proceeded to tell me that my Abington Card was issued an error ud83dude33ud83dude33ud83dude33 and that I needed my Philadelphia library card again, which I didn’t have. I left the library frustrated and without the books I came to borrow. The trip was a complete waste of time.nnWith that, I wonder how my card was issued an error and what the general policy is for non Abington residents interested in an Abington Free Library Card?!? Furthermore, I feel more like I’m attempting to borrow money rather than JUST books ud83dudcda

Those at the check-in/check-out area of Abington Library are not very helpful. If you really need help with something, I recommend that you go to any other library in the area. Those at Glenside Library are always pleasant, helpful and courteous.
