Kootenai Co Sheriff Rec Safety

The County Sheriff Recreational Safety Section provides year round marine law enforcement here and at 17 other lakes. They have several boats patrolling Lake Coeur d’Alene and each one has a huge daily quota to randomly stop boats; reason or not (they have the right). Boating safety is paramount. They check for drinking, a boating instruction card, proper life preservers, proper boat registration, Invasive Species Inspection, operational fire extinguisher, rental agreement if appropriate, your ID and much more. If you own the boat, borrow it, or rent it, as the boat operator you alone will be responsible for any citations issued. So be prepared, know the rules and speed limits, know where everything is (life preservers, registration, rental agreement, etc.) and be smart; don’t drink and drive!
