Wink Jones – jewelry resource, extraordinairennI have a walking stick carved by my maternal Great Grandmother, passed down to me. As much as I loved it, the stick was a bit crooked, and too short for me to use. I figured out a way to straighten and lengthen it, by cutting the top 1/3 off & adding a section, with support rod inside. To cover up the joints, I wanted to use gold bands with my Grandma’s name and Great Grandma’s name on them. I had no idea how many steps that one part of the project would entail!nnI called several jewelry stores, and was uniformly assured that engraving only goes on the inside of rings. Undaunted, I continued to make calls. When I mentioned the difficulties to Sean Cook at work, he immediately said, “Call Wink Jones, he will take care of you.” Wink had helped Sean and his wife with some custom work for their wedding bands.nnI called Wink, went down to meet with him, and shared my request. He said he could absolutely help, but the work would be done out of state, as no one in Idaho was set up for this purpose. I bought the two gold bands from him, he shipped them off. They came back in a couple of weeks, perfectly engraved as I had hoped.nnI assembled the walking stick, and it is among my very favorite sticks to use. It is also without doubt the most meaningful of my 30 walking sticks.
