I've been going to the Wood Street Galleries regularly since the late 90's. If you're ever downtown looking for something cool to do that is absolutely free, the Wood Street galleries is definitely worth a visit. It's directly above the Wood Street T station. There's a side door that leads to an elevator with two levels of art installations.nnI have seen so many cool installations over the years, but I still remember my absolute favorites. Nam June Paik had this really awesome installation with elephants and televisions. There was also a crazy spinning head and strobe light installation by Gregory Barsamian. I still think about these installations a decade later. It was so cool that I was in absolute awe!nnOne of my favorite activities with my daughter involves riding the T to the Point and dipping our toes in the fountain; getting ice cream at Millie's; then visiting the Wood Street Gallery. The last time we went a robot drew her portrait. We walked through a David Lynch-like labyrinth with crimson red velvet material and sound that changed as you got closer to the center. The cool thing is that the installations always change, and you never know what to expect.nnWe are so lucky to have something like this in Pittsburgh that is absolutely free. Everyone should be able to enjoy art! The Wood Street Galleries is one of my favorite little places that I always check out when I'm downtown.

I liked how accessible this location is, and it is FREE! Rather than have a gallery of paintings, this is actually a gallery of various multimedia that changes every season, keeping things fresh.nnI liked how there was a theme of Antarctica and arctic exploration, complete with audio exhibits, map art, and video.nnIt is FREE and is open right above Wood Street Station, which makes it even better.

I try to visit every time a new show is running. Some are better than others, but I always end up feeling inspired or moved in one way or another. Make sure to check out both floors if you visit!

Awesome way to spend some time. Would not suggest eating acid before hand, but hey I never learn not to.
