Maybe it’s different for contractors, but as DIY homeowners, Jeffco has been surprisingly wonderful to work with. The department is staffed with helpful people who seem truly focused on facilitating a successful project. They approved our designs for a new-build bathroom the same day, they proactively called after hours with helpful info, they understood the limitations of renovating an older house, and they offered code updates/guidelines for different aspects of the project. Inspections were always quickly scheduled and completed without waiting, which is a big help when trying to finish a job. People always think pulling permits is a bureaucratic nightmare, but Jeffco has proven — at least to us — that it can be an easy and efficient process. (Plus the permitting process will scare away subs that do shoddy work.)

This building department will remain 1 star until it moves itself into this century. It's almost impossible to get information of any kind, they consistently add and change rules and basically make working with them like pulling teeth. If you like endless paperwork, waiting in line and sitting on hold then you'll love Jeffco building department.

The billing department was not able to conduct necessary research and development of necessary requirements for our federal state and local regulations records indicated from the Lakewood planning department has committed fraud upon individuals moving to an area of the region of section 36 that may be referred to Edgewater Denver or Lakewood. Policies and procedures in Lakewood indicate only 10% of the value of the house to be used for the permit and necessary requirements for finishing unfinished projects. Records will indicate I spent $11,000 on a house that he was trying to assess for 1.1 million dollars when it was clearly only assessed for $770,000

I have pulled permits in several jurisdictions and Jeffco has been one of the best as far as customer service and helpfulness. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because they weren't always real timely in returning messages.

The Jefferson County building department is professional, quick, and helpful. Russ is a pleasure to work with for projects.
